Satsumas of Savannah was founded in 2020, we are a family owned local citrus orchard located in Historic Savannah Georgia.
The Orchard is located next to the marshes of the Little Ogeechee River. We think that the climate and soil conditions in Savannah are perfect for growing the sweetest Satsumas around.
When the fog from the Little Ogeechee River roles into the orchard on those cold winter days, it helps to protect our trees from the cold and adds some extra sweetness to the fruit.
WHY WE STARTED;
After hearing of the tremendous loses concerning the fresh citrus in Florida from the Asian citrus Psyllid, we thought of growing citrus.
Being of limited acreage we looked around and found the strategies used in Venezuela and Peru provided an excellent usage of the ground.
High density planting creating a hedge look, and the use of dwarf thorn less trees.
The practice of High Density planting helps with the conservation of water and fertilization of the trees, and the use of Dwarf Thorn less Trees makes harvesting safer for the workers at harvest time.
With the help and guidance from UGA Cooperative Extension, Georgia Grown Citrus and Mill Creek Nursery we started Satsumas of Savannah.
Here at Satsumas of Savannah we grow, Dobashi, Brown Select, Silverhill, Okitsu Wase and Owari Satsuma Mandarins.
We also have the sweet little favorite Kishu Mandarin.
For the bartender, Australian Finger Limes red and green ( Vegan Caviar ) and Pink Variegated Eureka Lemons.
